DI Khan Attack
In response to the recent deadly terrorist attack on security forces in Daraban, Dera Ismail Khan, Pakistan summoned the Afghan Chargรฉ dโAffaires to deliver a robust demarche, expressing its strong condemnation of the incident. The attack, claimed by Tehreek-e-Jihad Pakistan, a terrorist group affiliated with the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), resulted in significant casualties, including the martyrdom of twenty-three security personnel.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement highlighting the severity of the attack and conveying Pakistan’s demand for swift action against the perpetrators. The foreign secretary urged the Afghan envoy to thoroughly investigate the incident, take immediate action against those responsible, and publicly condemn the terrorist attack at the highest level. The secretary underscored the importance of the Afghan government’s immediate and verifiable actions against all terrorist groups, including their leadership and sanctuaries.
In addition, Pakistan demanded that the Afghan envoy apprehend and hand over the perpetrators of the attack, as well as the outlawed TTP leadership present in Afghanistan. The call for cooperation and extradition reinforces Pakistan’s commitment to addressing cross-border terrorism and holding responsible parties accountable.
This diplomatic initiative comes in the wake of a series of counter-terrorism operations by Pakistani security forces, resulting in the elimination of at least 27 terrorists in three different gun battles in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Tragically, 25 troops were martyred in the operations, underscoring the gravity of the security situation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated its longstanding call on the Afghan government to take decisive measures to prevent the persistent use of its soil for terrorism against Pakistan.
The demarche reflects Pakistan’s commitment to regional security and its determination to address terrorism through diplomatic channels, urging swift and concrete action from the Afghan authorities.
