ISLAMABAD: The federal government has unveiled the contents of the Digital Nation Pakistan Bill 2024, presented before the National Assembly.
The bill aims to foster a dynamic digital society and a thriving digital economy, with a vision to transform Pakistan into an empowered nation through effective digital governance.
The proposed legislation seeks to accelerate sustainable development, improve public service delivery, and modernize governance by promoting transparency and efficiency.
Under the Digital Nation Pakistan Bill 2024, key governance bodies will be established, including the National Digital Commission (NDC) and the Pakistan Digital Authority. The bill aligns with the National Digital Master Plan to facilitate enhanced service delivery at federal, provincial, and local levels.
The legislation outlines a comprehensive strategy to drive economic growth, emphasizing the development of digital public infrastructure and data exchange systems. It prioritizes innovation, improved public services, and citizen privacy protection.
Shaza Fatima Khawaja Announces National Digital Commission
Earlier, State Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunications, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, announced the formation of the National Digital Commission (NDC) to advance the Digital Pakistan vision.
Speaking at the National Broadband Forum in Islamabad, she stated that the commission, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, would include provincial chief ministers and representatives from key regulatory authorities such as NADRA and PTA.
The minister also revealed plans for establishing the Pakistan Digital Authority to implement a comprehensive national framework and master plan for digitalization. The initiative will focus on three priority areas: economy, governance, and society.
Shaza Fatima further announced that 5G and 4G spectrum auctions are scheduled for April next year, a move expected to significantly enhance internet services across Pakistan.
She emphasized that improved spectrum availability and increased investment in telecom infrastructure will address longstanding connectivity issues, particularly benefiting freelancers and IT professionals by boosting internet speeds nationwide.
