Karachi bridge scare prompts police probe after viral robbery video
An investigation is underway following the viral video of a night-time attempted robbery in Shah Faisal Colony at one of the busiest bridges in Karachi. In the video, which went viral within no time, a person was seen asserting that a gang of about 10 to 12 members were robbing people.
On being informed of this case, East Deputy Inspector General Dr Farrukh Ali instructed high-ranking officials in Korangi and Malir districts to probe into the matter and register a case. He added that the bridge is an important route for daily commuters and needs to be protected immediately.
Meanwhile, police officials from Malir offered a different version of events. According to their statement, no robbery actually took place. Instead, a small group of individuals carrying sticks reportedly attempted to intimidate passersby. However, law enforcement officers, already stationed nearby, acted swiftly. They chased the suspects, who managed to escape under the cover of darkness. As a result, no citizens were harmed or robbed.
Political concerns grow over public safety
On the other hand, political figures expressed their serious reservations. Legislators from Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan spoke out about alleged indifference by the government. This is because citizens do not feel safe while walking on Karachi roads anymore due to increased criminal activities on the roadways.
Moreover, leaders of Jamaat-i-Islamiโs Karachi chapter urged immediate arrest of suspects involved in the heinous act.
