ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has advised Kamran Tessori, Governor of Sindh, to submit his resignation as the federal government wants a major administrative change in the province.
Officials familiar with the development said the Sindh Governor has been informed that his resignation is expected without delay. They added that the government is ready to issue a formal de-notification if he refuses to step down, according to MMNews report published today.
Sources said the decision is part of an ongoing process to reshuffle key constitutional posts across several provinces. They stated that the federal leadership believes a change in Sindhโs constitutional office has become necessary to support political adjustments within the ruling coalition. They also confirmed that discussions are advancing quickly.
Several Names Under Consideration for Governorship
Officials said multiple candidates are under consideration for the role of Sindh governor. They identified former FIA chief Bashir Memon as one of the leading contenders. They also mentioned former senator Nehal Hashmi as another strong candidate.
Sources said consultations continue within the ruling alliance and that final names will be determined after internal reviews. They stated that the coalition aims to complete the process soon to avoid administrative gaps in the province. They added that the new appointee must command political acceptance in Islamabad and Karachi.
Move Linked to Broader Power-Sharing Formula
Officials described the expected change as part of a broader political arrangement between allied parties. Under the reported understanding, two provincial governorships will be allocated to the Pakistan Peoples Party. Two others will be assigned to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz. Sources said this formula was discussed during recent coalition meetings to ensure balanced representation.
They said the final decision requires further consultation but is unlikely to face serious opposition within the alliance. They added that the government wants a smooth transition to maintain stability in Sindhโs political landscape. They confirmed that formal announcements may follow soon once the prime minister finalises the new appointment.
