The Islamabad High Court (IHC) issued an immediate arrest order for Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, Irfan Memon, on Tuesday concerning a case related to the issuance of arrest orders under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO).
Justice Babar Sattar presided over a contempt case at the IHC on Monday, where Islamabad’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations and DC had been summoned to appear in person.
While SSP Malik Jameel Zafar appeared in person, Memon filed an exemption request through his counsel, Rizwan Abbasi. The counsel argued that the DC was on leave in Khairpur and intended to leave for Umra soon.
However, Justice Sattar denied the exemption request and ordered all provincial Inspectors General (IGs) to arrest Memon and produce him in court immediately.
Memon is facing contempt proceedings for ordering the arrest of Shaheryar Afridi under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO), against the orders issued by the IHC.
The decision by the IHC underscores the judiciary’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring accountability, particularly in cases involving the misuse of authority or violation of court orders. It sends a clear message that no one, regardless of their position, is above the law, and actions contrary to judicial directives will be met with swift and decisive legal action.
As the case progresses, the outcome will serve as a precedent for maintaining the integrity of court orders and reaffirm the judiciary’s pivotal role in safeguarding the principles of justice and fairness within society.
