ISLAMABAD: Thick disrupted several flights in Pakistan today, affecting aviation operations in Karachi, Lahore, and other airports. Several flights were grounded at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi because of dense fog.
Authorities reported that poor visibility conditions prevented safe departures, prompting airlines and airport staff to prioritise passenger safety. As a result, travellers faced delays and uncertainty throughout the morning.
Several neighbourhoods across Karachi experienced thick fog, including Malir, Surjani Town, Scheme 33, Gulshan-e-Maymar, and Bahria Town.
Consequently, visibility dropped sharply in these areas, affecting not only air travel but also routine road movement. Commuters reported slower journeys, while traffic police urged motorists to use caution, dip headlights, and maintain safe distances.
Officials continued to monitor weather conditions closely and advised passengers to check with their respective airlines before heading to the airport. Meanwhile, airport management coordinated with airline operators to minimise disruption and manage schedules once conditions improved.
Heavy fog slows movement in Lahore and beyond
At the same time, heavy fog blanketed Lahore, creating hazardous conditions on key routes such as Canal Road, Mall Road, and Multan Road. Traffic moved at a crawl across several arteries of the city as drivers struggled with reduced visibility. Traffic wardens deployed additional personnel at busy intersections to manage congestion and guide motorists through affected areas.
Moreover, authorities confirmed that fog affected several cities across Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Sindh. Motorway police suspended traffic on multiple sections of major highways due to dangerously low visibility. Officials said they took the step to prevent accidents and protect commuters.
Weather officials warned that foggy conditions could persist during early morning and late-night hours in the coming days. Therefore, they urged travellers to plan journeys carefully, avoid unnecessary travel during peak fog periods, and follow official advisories.
