The dengue virus continues to spread rapidly across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), with health authorities confirming 82 new cases in the past 24 hours, marking a significant spike in infections. The latest figures were released by the KP Health Department on Monday, raising concerns over the growing public health threat in the province.
According to the official report, the number of active dengue cases has now reached 90, while the cumulative total of reported infections since the start of the season has climbed to 398. The virus, transmitted through mosquito bites, is becoming increasingly prevalent in vulnerable areas, with health workers on high alert.
Health officials stated that 308 patients have so far recovered from the virus, and efforts are being intensified to monitor and control the outbreak. Teams have been deployed in districts showing higher infection rates, with particular focus on vector surveillance, fumigation drives, and community awareness campaigns.
Public Urged to Eliminate Stagnant Water and Take Preventive Measures
In light of the rising cases, the provincial health department is urging citizens to take immediate precautionary actions to help curb the spread of dengue. Key recommendations include eliminating stagnant water sources, where mosquitoes typically breed, and using mosquito repellents, nets, and protective clothing, especially during peak mosquito activity hours.
Authorities have also stressed the importance of public cooperation in ongoing preventive campaigns, warning that negligence could result in further escalation of the outbreak.
With the number of infections increasing each day, the KP government is closely monitoring the situation and may implement additional containment measures if the trend continues. Hospitals and clinics across the province have been advised to remain on alert and ensure rapid diagnosis and treatment for suspected dengue cases.
