Eight people were killed and thirteen injured in separate road crashes across Punjab, according to rescue officials on Saturday.
In Toba Tek Singh, three members of the same family lost their lives and nine others were injured when a passenger van collided with a truck and overturned on the M3 Motorway near the Rajana Interchange.
Rescue workers said the van was travelling from Multan to Lahore’s Data Darbar when it struck a truck loaded with vegetables late Friday night.
The victims included two women and a one-year-old child who died on the spot, while the injured were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital Toba Tek Singh. Authorities cited speeding as the main cause of the crash.
Meanwhile, in Gujranwala, five people were killed and four others injured when a truck rammed into a van on Hafizabad Road. The victims were immediately taken to nearby hospitals, while police launched an investigation into the incident.
These back-to-back accidents have reignited concerns over road safety in Pakistan, where traffic mishaps are frequent due to speeding, overloading, and poor road infrastructure.
Earlier this month, seven nomads, including six members of the same family, were killed and six others injured when a high-speed truck ran over roadside workers near Kuddan Hotel in Shikarpur. The truck, loaded with vegetables, hit an electric pole before crashing into the nomads’ camp, leaving multiple casualties.
Police investigations revealed that the driver lost control of the vehicle due to excessive speed.
These tragedies follow two deadly accidents in Balochistan earlier this week, which claimed at least thirteen lives, including women and children. One crash occurred near Zero Point in Lasbela’s Uthal, killing six people, while another in Hub-Winder left seven dead and sixteen injured.
Road accidents remain a persistent problem across Pakistan, often linked to reckless driving and neglected road maintenance.
