Gunman Kills Two Detainees, Wounds One in Attack on Immigration Facility
A gunman launched a deadly assault on a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) field office in Dallas on Wednesday, killing two detainees and injuring another before dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, officials confirmed.
The attacker fired from a nearby building around 6:40 a.m., targeting a secure vehicle bay at the ICE facility where detainees were being transported. The shooter did not enter the facility, and no federal agents were harmed during the incident.
In a striking revelation, the FBI recovered an unused bullet from the suspect bearing the handwritten message: “ANTI-ICE”—a clear indication of the attacker’s ideological motive, authorities said.
“Initial findings suggest this was a deliberate, ideologically motivated act of violence,” said Joseph Rothrock, FBI Special Agent in Charge of the Dallas field office.
FBI, DHS Confirm Attack as Ideologically Driven
FBI Director Kash Patel posted an image of the marked bullet on social media, stating that the evidence points to a targeted political attack on the federal immigration agency.
According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the gunman fired “indiscriminately” at the facility, striking a van carrying the victims. Authorities have not yet released the shooter’s identity, citing the early stages of the investigation.
The ICE office involved is not a detention center but handles short-term processing of recently arrested individuals.
This latest attack adds to a troubling trend of violence at DHS-run facilities. It marks the third shooting this year at a DHS site in Texas, following incidents in McAllen and Prairieland, where law enforcement officers also came under fire.
