Ban Revoked Following Procedural Flaws, Campbell Back in Fray
Cricket West Indies (CWI) has officially rescinded the four‑match suspension that had been imposed on Jamaica Scorpions captain John Campbell following the controversial Super50 final no‑show. The decision came after a Code of Conduct and Disciplinary Tribunal held on 4 April 2025 flagged procedural irregularities in how the charge was brought.
While Campbell’s admission of responsibility and apology remain on public record, the Tribunal’s findings prompted CWI to conclude that the handling of the disciplinary process was flawed, making the original sanction untenable.
Career Spotlight, Recent Performances, and Anti-Doping Past
Campbell, a prolific left‑hand batsman, has recently been in form in domestic cricket. As captain of the Scorpions, he has emphasized performing consistently to fortify his prospects for reentry into the West Indies national setup.
His career has not been without controversy. In 2022, Campbell was handed a four‑year ban by the Jamaica Anti‑Doping Commission (JADCO) for refusing to submit a blood sample. However, upon appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), his suspension was reduced, and his return to competitive play was permitted in 2024.
Earlier, in December 2024, Campbell was suspended for failing to show up for the toss in the Super50 final — an event that led to the match being forfeited and no trophy awarded. With the recent withdrawal of the sanction, he is now again eligible to take part fully in regional tournaments.
