Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Friday inaugurated the Cove Beach Resort at Hawkโs Bay, officially launching the cityโs first-ever beach resort developed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. The project marks a significant step toward boosting Karachiโs tourism and recreational landscape.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the mayor said the resort offers a world-class coastal experience, reducing the need for Karachiites to travel abroad for premium beach destinations. He noted that the facility was completed in a record six months and is now open to the public, featuring modern amenities designed to meet international standards.
A Major Milestone for KMC
Calling the project a major achievement for the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), Wahab said the Cove Beach Resort reflects his administrationโs broader vision to modernize urban infrastructure through innovative partnerships with the private sector. He added that the success of this initiative has encouraged the city administration to plan another beach resort, with potential locations under consideration including Ibrahim Hyderi and Malir, aimed at ensuring wider public access.
Citywide Development Initiatives
The mayor also highlighted multiple ongoing projects focused on improving Karachiโs livability and economic prospects. These include the cleaning of 46 major stormwater drains ahead of the monsoon season to prevent urban flooding, as well as the beautification of II Chundrigar Road, Karachiโs main financial district.
In addition, Wahab said the KMC is actively working on the restoration of historic landmarks such as Empress Market, Frere Hall, and Denso Hall, preserving the cityโs heritage while enhancing public spaces. He also announced plans for a mangrove conservation park, aimed at promoting environmental awareness and protecting coastal ecosystems.
Reaffirming his commitment, the mayor said Karachiโs tourism and recreational sectors will be developed through sustainable and inclusive growth, positioning the city as a modern coastal destination for residents and visitors alike.
