Police Seek More Time; Defence Calls Arrest Politically Motivated
An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Monday extended the physical remand of PTI activist Falak Javed for an additional five days in connection with the case related to an attack on Islamabad Police at Zaman Park.
Falak Javed was presented before the court after the completion of her 14-day physical remand. During the proceedings, police investigators sought a 30-day extension, arguing that further time was needed to complete the ongoing investigation.
However, the court granted a five-day extension instead, instructing authorities to produce the accused again on November 1.
Defence Argues Arrest Is Politically Driven
Advocate Mian Ali Ashfaq, representing Falak Javed, strongly contested the prosecution’s request, claiming that her arrest was politically motivated and based solely on a supplementary statement rather than concrete evidence. He urged the court to discharge her from the case, arguing that no credible link had been established between his client and the alleged incident.
After hearing both sides, the court found the police’s stance “justified” and approved a limited extension of physical remand for further investigation.
The case stems from the Zaman Park operation, during which Islamabad Police were allegedly attacked while carrying out a law enforcement action at the residence of former prime minister Imran Khan in Lahore. The incident led to several clashes and arrests, including that of multiple PTI supporters accused of obstructing police operations.
