Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir commended Lahore Gulberg Circle Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Syeda Shehrbano Naqvi for her courageous and professional handling of a delicate situation, praising her dedication to duty and commitment to diffusing tensions.
The incident unfolded when a mob gathered outside a shop in Lahore’s Ichra Bazaar following allegations of blasphemy due to Quranic verses printed on a woman’s shirt. In response to the escalating situation, ASP Shehrbano Naqvi, along with her team, intervened and successfully managed to secure the woman’s safety, ensuring she was taken into protective custody amid heightened security measures.
ASP Naqvi’s swift and decisive actions earned her recognition from Punjab’s police chief, who recommended her for the prestigious Quaid-i-Azam Police Medal (QPM). The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) revealed that ASP Shehrbano Naqvi was personally lauded by the COAS during her visit to the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.
General Munir commended ASP Shehrbano for her fearless and professional conduct in diffusing a potentially volatile situation, highlighting the pivotal role women play in various spheres of society. He emphasized the importance of respecting women, citing their significant contributions to the nation’s progress and development.
Furthermore, COAS Munir stressed the fundamental principles of social harmony and urged against resorting to arbitrary actions, emphasizing the rule of law and the availability of legal avenues to address grievances.
