CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz highlights her hectic efforts for the uplift of the province in September
Visit to Flood Relief Camps in Bahawalnagar and Sahiwal
During her visit to Bahawalnagar and Sahiwal, she inspected the flood relief camp established at Technical College Bahawalnagar. She received a detailed briefing about the flood situation, rescue operations, and relief measures. She also interacted with flood victims and listened to their concerns compassionately.
Inauguration of Sahiwal Electrobus Project
The Chief Minister inaugurated the first modern, eco-friendly electrobus project in Sahiwal and addressed the inauguration ceremony as the Chief Guest. She personally travelled on the e-bus to mark the historic beginning of Sahiwal’s sustainable transport era. Chief Minister Punjab highlighted the glimpses of her development efforts in her official WhatsApp channel titled Maryam Nawaz Sharif. The channel’s subscription is rapidly growing daily.
Warm Reception by Sahiwal Residents
Her arrival drew massive crowds as residents of Sahiwal gathered along the roads, expressing joy and admiration. Thousands of enthusiastic youth walked beside the e-bus as it moved slowly through the cheering crowd. People showered flower petals on the bus and raised slogans praising her leadership, calling her “the light of success and pride of the people.” Many also carried posters of Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
Briefing on E-Bus Details
Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan briefed her on the e-bus project. He explained that 16 electric buses would operate in the first phase across four routes, including Arifwala Bypass–Sarwar Chowk, Noor Shah–KFC Bypass, Farid Town–Yousafwala, and General Bus Stand–Kamir. He added that over 25,000 passengers would commute daily at a fixed fare of Rs 20 per stop.
Modern Facilities in Sahiwal E-Buses
She was informed that the Sahiwal electrobus fleet includes Wi-Fi, mobile charging ports, CCTV cameras, and separate compartments for women. A dedicated charging station for the buses has also been set up in Sahiwal.
Financial Assistance for PDMA Officer
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced Rs 10 million in financial assistance for the family of PDMA Officer Abdul Rehman. She paid tribute to his exemplary services and commitment.
Development Announcements for Sahiwal Division
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, she made several key announcements for Sahiwal city and the entire division. She declared the addition of 30 e-buses for Sahiwal and 62 for the wider division. She announced free travel for women, students, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities. She also unveiled the interventional cardiac surgery program at DHQ Hospital Sahiwal, with angiography and angioplasty facilities in the new Cath Lab. She reaffirmed the Rs 20 fixed fare for passengers and highlighted modern amenities such as ramps, women’s compartments, CCTV coverage, and free Wi-Fi.
Vision for Equal Development Across Punjab
While addressing the event, she emphasized that residents of Sahiwal would no longer need to travel to other cities for cardiac care. She called the day “historic for Sahiwal” and said electric buses symbolize modernity and comfort equal to European standards. She reaffirmed her commitment to equitable development across Punjab, stating she would not rest until every city achieves progress. She thanked former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and the military leadership for their roles in Operation Bunyan-um-Marsus, which she said elevated Pakistan’s global dignity. She praised Saudi Arabia as a true friend of Pakistan and expressed gratitude that the country is now the protector of Haramain Sharifain.
She also announced the Monthly Ration Card Scheme, offering Rs 3,000 monthly support to 1.5 million people, and revealed that under the ‘Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar’ program, 80,000 houses are under construction, while 100,000 more will be completed by December.
Education, Agriculture, and Healthcare Reforms
She detailed initiatives to improve the education sector, including teacher recruitment, construction of classrooms and bathrooms within three months, and scholarships and laptops for talented students. She introduced an agricultural support program for wheat farmers, including Kisan Cards and free tractors. Healthcare measures include free medicines in government hospitals and home delivery services. She highlighted the functioning of Clinic-on-Wheels and Field Hospitals in flood-affected areas. Over 2,000 survey teams have been deployed for relief operations, rescuing 2.8 million people and 2.2 million livestock.
Compensation for Flood Victims
She announced compensation packages for flood victims—Rs 1 million for destroyed concrete houses, Rs 500,000 for damaged mud houses, Rs 500,000 for the loss of large animals, Rs 50,000 for small animals, and Rs 20,000 per acre for crop losses. She reassured that no flood-affected citizen would be neglected. During her visit, she shared that flood victims had named newborns “Nawaz Sharif” and “Maryam Nawaz,” reflecting the people’s affection for PML-N leadership.
Tribute to Nawaz Sharif’s Legacy
She declared that from Lahore to Rahim Yar Khan, signs of Nawaz Sharif’s service are evident in motorways, metro lines, and nuclear advancements. She called the e-bus project part of a broader mission to provide comfort and modern facilities to Punjab’s citizens and congratulated the people of Sahiwal on receiving this transformative gift.
Inspection of Flood Relief Arrangements
During her visit to the Technical Training Institute Flood Relief Camp in Bahawalnagar, she reviewed arrangements and met parents of newborns, offering prayers and congratulations. She inspected the Sanat Zar center, where she interacted warmly with women engaged in sewing and embroidery. She even sewed and embroidered fabric herself, appreciating their craftsmanship. She sat with flood-affected women, played with children, and accepted pencil sketches made by students. She distributed gifts, visited patients, and shared meals with women and children at the camp.
Briefing from PDMA and Local Administration
The Director General PDMA and Deputy Commissioner Bahawalnagar briefed her on ongoing rescue efforts. They reported that 26 union councils and over 100,000 people were severely affected. Twenty relief camps were established, and health units treated more than 40,000 individuals. Over 15,795 ration bags, 1,198 silage units, and 399 tonnes of fodder were distributed. Vaccination drives covered 3.77 million animals to prevent foot-and-mouth disease, while buffer zones were created across five adjoining districts.
