CM Punjab Green E-Taxi Program Set to Launch: Clean Transport and Youth Empowerment Drive in 2025
The Punjab government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, is launching the CM Punjab Green E-Taxi Program, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at empowering unemployed youth and promoting eco-friendly urban mobility. This transformative project introduces electric taxis (E-Taxis) across the province, aligning with Punjabโs vision of building a greener, smarter, and more inclusive future.
Over 1,100 electric vehicles will be distributed in the first phase of the program. These E-Taxis will be provided through interest-free installment plans, making them accessible to young individuals, women, and marginalized communities. The scheme not only promotes environmental sustainability but also addresses youth unemployment and rising urban pollution levels.
Key Features of the Green E-Taxi Program
โ
1,100 E-Taxis in Phase One
The initial rollout includes more than 1,100 electric taxis, available on easy, zero-interest installments to reduce financial barriers.
โ
Strategic Partnership with Dewan Motors
The taxis include Honri VC20 and VC30 models, offering driving ranges of 200 km and 300 km per charge, respectively.
โ
Zero Emissions & Reduced Noise Pollution
As fully electric vehicles, these E-Taxis help cut down air pollution and noise in congested urban areas like Lahore, Multan, and Rawalpindi.
โ
Statewide Charging Infrastructure
Charging stations will be installed every 3 kilometers in Lahore, with plans to expand the network across Punjab for seamless travel.
โ
Special Focus on Women & Marginalized Youth
The program prioritizes women, differently-abled individuals, and young people from rural and underserved areas, promoting inclusivity in public transport.
Youth Employment, Green Economy & Simple Application Process
The CM Punjab Green E-Taxi Program serves a dual purposeโenvironmental impact and job creation. By offering affordable ownership of electric taxis, the government empowers the youth to become self-employed entrepreneurs. It also stimulates job growth in EV maintenance, charging station operations, and public transport services.
The application process will be simple and inclusive, targeting:
- Unemployed youth
- Women from both urban and rural communities
- Differently-abled individuals
- Residents of underserved districts
A mass awareness campaign is being planned to ensure maximum participation through TV, radio, newspapers, and digital platforms.
A Big Step Toward Sustainable Urban Mobility in Punjab
As Punjab faces rising pollution, high fuel prices, and inadequate public transport, this Green E-Taxi initiative offers a scalable, clean, and cost-effective solution. With over 60,000 applications already received, the public response is overwhelming, signaling both demand and enthusiasm for sustainable transport solutions.
This program marks a pivotal step in shaping a cleaner environment, strengthening local economies, and bridging the employment gap among youth and women in Pakistan.
