The Government of Balochistan has formally announced the establishment of the Bank of Balochistan, a landmark initiative aimed at strengthening the province’s financial infrastructure and promoting sustainable economic growth.
The decision was finalized during a high-level meeting held in Quetta under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti. An initial feasibility report for the bank was presented at the meeting, which declared the project viable and highly beneficial for the province.
Chief Minister Bugti emphasized the urgent need for an operational plan and directed the concerned authorities to finalize it within a week. He said the establishment of a dedicated provincial bank would not only ensure the availability of quality banking services but also help provide tailored financial solutions to the people, traders, and investors of Balochistan.
“This is a historic milestone for Balochistan. The people of the province will hear good news soon. The Bank of Balochistan will boost trade, attract investments, and open new avenues of employment for our youth,” the chief minister stated.
He further highlighted that the bank would play a critical role in mobilizing provincial resources to accelerate the pace of development projects. With improved access to financial services, the initiative is expected to enhance entrepreneurship, strengthen small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and reduce reliance on federal or external banking channels.
The meeting was attended by provincial Finance Minister Mir Shoaib Nosherwani, Chief Secretary Shakeel Qadir Khan, senior government officials, and other stakeholders. Banking sector experts also joined the session virtually, sharing their insights and recommending strategies to ensure the bank’s operational success.
The participants unanimously agreed to expedite the process and move forward with the establishment of the Bank of Balochistan at the earliest possible stage. The project is being hailed as a step toward greater financial autonomy for the province, ensuring that its resources are used directly for the welfare and progress of its people.
