Rain and Thunderstorms
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (Met Office) has issued a comprehensive weather update for various regions across the country, forecasting a mix of weather patterns ranging from intense heat to scattered rainfall.
In the federal capital, Islamabad, and its surrounding areas, partially cloudy skies are expected to prevail throughout the day. However, there remains a likelihood of isolated rain and thunderstorms developing in certain localities later in the day, offering a brief respite from the prevailing summer heat.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is also set to experience similar weather conditions. The forecast indicates partial cloud cover over much of the province, with evening and nighttime showers expected in districts such as Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Shangla, and Abbottabad. These rains, while scattered, may provide some cooling relief to residents enduring warm daytime temperatures.
Meanwhile, in Punjab, most areas are expected to remain predominantly hot, with the mercury continuing to climb across the plains. Nevertheless, partial cloudiness is expected in some regions, and light rain may occur in the hillier and northern areas, particularly Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, and Rawalpindi.
In the southern province of Sindh, hot and humid weather conditions will persist, with no immediate signs of relief. Coastal areas are also expected to experience elevated humidity levels.
Similarly, Balochistan will remain hot and dry for the most part. However, the Met Office has predicted the possibility of rain and gusty winds in districts like Quetta, Khuzdar, Lasbela, and nearby regions.
Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir are also likely to receive light rainfall in select areas, particularly in the higher elevations. These rains may bring down temperatures slightly, providing brief comfort to residents and tourists alike.
Despite the expected rain in some regions, the plains of the country continue to experience extreme heat. The Met Office has issued a heatwave alert, warning that these oppressive conditions are likely to persist at least until June 21.
Authorities have urged citizens, particularly the elderly and children, to remain hydrated, avoid direct exposure to the sun during peak hours, and take all necessary precautions to protect themselves from heat-related illnesses.
