HYF Expresses Interest in Local Production
ISLAMABAD: A Chinese tech giant, HYF, plans to manufacture laptops and tablets in Pakistan. HYF, a leading Chinese technology company, has expressed its intention to establish a laptop and tablet manufacturing industry in Pakistan. The decision was discussed in a meeting between HYF’s CEO and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) Haroon Akhtar Khan.
Government Promises Full Facilitation
SAPM Haroon Akhtar Khan emphasized that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed maximum facilitation for Chinese investors. He assured HYF that their investment will remain fully secure under the government’s pro-business policies. Additionally, he highlighted ongoing efforts to create a favorable environment for technology-driven industries.
Mobile Device Policy to Boost Manufacturing
The government is currently finalizing a Mobile Device Policy that will extend beyond smartphones to include laptops and tablets. This policy aims to encourage local production and reduce reliance on imports. Consequently, HYF’s initiative aligns with Pakistan’s broader strategy to promote indigenous technology manufacturing.
Streamlined Visa Policy for Chinese Nationals
To further attract investors, the government has revised its visa policy for Chinese nationals. Business and visit visas are now processed within 24 to 72 hours. This streamlined system reflects Pakistan’s commitment to ensuring ease of doing business for international partners.
Agencies Directed to Provide Support
Haroon Akhtar Khan instructed the Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC) and the Engineering Development Board (EDB) to extend complete cooperation. Their role will be crucial in supporting HYF for the successful launch of its laptop and tablet project in Pakistan.

US is inviting applications for Visa Lottery
The United States will open applications for the Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery 2027 in early October 2025. The program, managed by the U.S. Department of State, provides up to 55,000 immigrant visas annually. Applicants must submit entries electronically through the official DV Lottery website, as paper submissions are not accepted. The entry period will run from early October to early November 2025, with exact dates announced later.
New $1 Registration Fee Introduced
For the first time, applicants must pay a $1 electronic registration fee when submitting entries. The change, effective October 16, 2025, aims to offset administrative costs. According to the State Department, the DV Lottery receives over 25 million entries each year. Officials believe the fee will reduce fraud and discourage fake or duplicate submissions by third-party agents. The new fee is non-refundable, even for those not selected.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must be natives of countries with historically low U.S. immigration rates. In addition, they must hold at least a high school education or its equivalent. Alternatively, they may qualify with two years of work experience in an occupation requiring two years of training. Applicants must provide accurate personal information, passport details, and a recent digital passport-style photograph meeting U.S. standards.
