China’s Hebei Juhang Energy Technology Group has shown strong interest in setting up a large-scale solar panel manufacturing plant in Pakistan. The initiative aims to meet growing domestic demand while positioning Pakistan as an export hub for renewable energy products. The proposal highlights China’s expanding role in Pakistan’s high-tech and green-energy development.
Chinese Delegation Proposes Major Investment Drive
A Chinese delegation led by Hebei Juhang Chairman Wang Jianbin, alongside members of the China-Pakistan Business Forum, met Board of Investment (BoI) Minister Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh in Islamabad on Tuesday. During the meeting, the group expressed its intention to invest billions of dollars in Pakistan’s solar energy and other advanced technology sectors.
Minister Sheikh welcomed the proposal enthusiastically, calling it a “great time and a golden opportunity for investment in Pakistan.” He emphasised the government’s efforts to improve the ease of doing business, pointing to recent reforms initiated by the prime minister, including the new single-window Business Facilitation Centre.
The BoI also informed the delegation that the government is ready to allocate 6,000 acres of land for the project. Officials briefed the visitors on Pakistan’s Special Economic Zones (SEZs), which offer investors attractive incentives, such as zero income tax for the first ten years.
Minister Sheikh added that Pakistan’s economy is showing signs of improvement. He highlighted the stock market’s remarkable rise — nearly four to five times higher over the past year — as evidence of renewed investor confidence. He further noted that sectors like agriculture, solar energy, IT, chemicals and manufacturing offer substantial export potential for foreign companies.
Strengthening China-Pakistan Investment Ties
The discussions also reviewed the outcomes of the second Pakistan-China B2B Investment Conference, held in Beijing in September. That conference resulted in $8.5 billion worth of agreements and joint ventures across key priority sectors.
Minister Sheikh reaffirmed the BoI’s commitment to facilitating Chinese investors and urged both sides to accelerate feasibility studies and joint-venture projects. He stressed that Pakistan remains a strategic partner for China and welcomes high-quality, green-tech investments that can boost employment and drive sustainable economic growth.
The proposed solar panel plant is expected to strengthen Pakistan’s renewable energy capacity while deepening long-term industrial cooperation between the two countries.
