Lahore: On Saturday, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar announced that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed disciplinary measures against high-ranking police officials due to alleged negligence, as per an investigation report concerning the Shangla district incident which resulted in the tragic loss of five Chinese lives.
In a press conference in Lahore, Tarar announced that the prime minister has established a committee to investigate the March 26 attack on a vehicle transporting Chinese engineers to the Dasu Hydropower Project.
According to Tarar, the prime minister has instructed to take necessary actions against the Regional Police Officer of Hazara Division, the District Police Officer of Upper and Lower Kohistan, the Director of Security at Dasu Hydropower Project, and the Commandant of the Special Security Unit in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa within a 15-day timeframe.
The investigation committee was established to examine the incident and pinpoint any flaws in the security procedures. Tragically, a minimum of six individuals, consisting of five Chinese engineers working on the Dasu project, lost their lives in a suicide attack that occurred on the Karakoram Highway in the Bisham region, Shangla district.
These professionals were en route from Islamabad to the dam construction site in the Upper Kohistan district’s Dasu area.
Emphasizing the prompt actions of Pakistani officials, Tarar stated that the Prime Minister quickly visited the Chinese consulate following the event and personally went to Dasu to uplift the spirits of Chinese engineers. He expressed the importance of regional peace, yet clarified that their commitment should not be perceived as vulnerability.
The government is taking the security of Chinese nationals extremely seriously, with PM Shehbaz personally supervising the protection of Chinese projects and personnel. Additionally, Tarar mentioned the high morale of the nation and their determination to preserve peace, ensuring no one disrupts it.
PM directs foolproof security for Chinese
During a meeting focused on law and order in Islamabad, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the importance of ensuring the utmost security for Chinese nationals residing in Pakistan. To achieve this, he instructed the relevant authorities to develop a thorough action plan for regular audits of security standard operating procedures.
Furthermore, the premier committed to personally monitoring the security of Chinese nationals through monthly meetings, demonstrating his dedication to their well-being and safety.
During the meeting, which included the federal interior minister, top security officials, and relevant authorities, Prime Minister Shehbaz received an update on the nation’s overall security status.
He pledged to persistently fight against terrorism until its complete eradication. Furthermore, he instructed the interior ministry to enhance collaboration with the provincial anti-terrorism departments.
