Political Resolution
China has voiced deep concern over the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, urging both nuclear-armed neighbors to prioritize peace and return to the path of political resolution through dialogue.
In an official statement, a spokesperson from China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized Beijing’s apprehension over the continued hostilities and called on both sides to exercise restraint in the interest of regional and global stability.
“China is closely following the ongoing situation between India and Pakistan and is deeply concerned about the escalation,” the spokesperson stated. Highlighting the urgency of the matter, he noted that rising tensions between the two nations pose a serious threat not only to South Asia’s stability but also to broader international peace.
In a firm yet conciliatory tone, China “strongly urged both sides to act in the larger interest of peace and stability, exercise calm and restraint, return to the track of political settlement through peaceful means, and refrain from any action that could further escalate tension.”
The spokesperson added that a peaceful and stable South Asia aligns with the fundamental interests of both India and Pakistan and is the collective hope of the international community.
The Chinese government reiterated its willingness to contribute constructively to efforts aimed at easing tensions. “China is willing to continue to play a constructive role to this end,” the statement concluded, signaling Beijing’s interest in mediating or facilitating diplomatic initiatives to de-escalate the situation.
The sharp increase in hostilities between India and Pakistan follows a tragic incident on April 22 in Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), where a deadly attack claimed the lives of 26 individuals, mostly tourists.
India has blamed Pakistan-based groups for orchestrating the assault, while Pakistan has firmly denied any involvement, calling the accusations unfounded and politically motivated.
The flare-up has since led to a series of military exchanges, drawing concern from major global powers. China’s latest appeal adds to international calls for restraint and diplomatic engagement, emphasizing the need to avoid further escalation in a region already fraught with historic tensions and fragile peace.
