ISLAMABAD: China and Pakistan have jointly introduced a five-point plan to promote peace and stability in the Gulf and the broader Middle East amid escalating tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
Chinese Ambassador Jiang Ziadong said the proposal was issued on March 31 following close coordination between Beijing and Islamabad. The plan calls for an immediate ceasefire and the early resumption of peace talks. In addition, it emphasizes the protection of civilian infrastructure, the safeguarding of maritime shipping routes, and strict adherence to the principles of the United Nations Charter.
The ambassador stated that the initiative reflects a shared position between both countries while aligning with broader international expectations. He added that the proposal has already attracted wide global attention and support. Moreover, he highlighted the long-standing โiron-cladโ partnership between China and Pakistan, stressing their continued cooperation on regional and global challenges.
Since the conflict intensified, China has actively engaged relevant parties to encourage dialogue and push for a ceasefire. Meanwhile, Pakistan has facilitated mediation efforts to reduce tensions. Both countries have maintained close diplomatic coordination in Beijing, Islamabad, and at the UN Security Council, with frequent interactions between their foreign ministers.
Furthermore, the ambassador linked the plan to Xi Jinpingโs Global Governance Initiative, which promotes multilateralism, sovereign equality, and respect for international law. He noted that Pakistan has consistently supported this framework, including at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Tianjin.
He emphasized that military action cannot resolve conflicts and warned that prolonged instability could disrupt global energy supplies and international trade routes.
