During a ceremony held at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor’s House, the government bestowed a civilian award upon Haji Nooruddin Shinwari, renowned as Chacha Noora, the maker of the ‘Kaptaan Special Peshawari Chapal’. KP Governor Haji Ghulam Ali presented him with the prestigious award, alongside 58 other recipients from the province.
Nooruddin Shinwari, the proprietor of the Afghan Chappal store located in Namak Mandi Chowk, Peshawar, gained prominence for introducing the traditional Peshawari double-soled chapal in January 2015. However, the footwear attained new fame when it became associated with PTI founder Imran Khan.
Chacha Noora had presented these distinctive chapals to Khan on his wedding day, leading to a surge in their demand. Consequently, he initiated online sales of the chapal nine years ago.
In an interview with Dawn, the shoemaker revealed that he sourced pure leather from Italy, soles from Japan, and sheet soles from Germany, all dyed in a camel color.
In 2019, he crafted a snakeskin variant for the former prime minister. He also mentioned importing snake skin for Khan’s sandals.
This year, he unveiled a novel footwear line called ‘Prisoner 804’, named after the prisoner number assigned to the incarcerated PM in Adiala Jail.
Chacha Noora disclosed that the ‘Kaaptan’ chapal utilized Japanese leather and was the most luxurious. He expressed his desire to gift a pair to the former prime minister upon his release.
