The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has rolled out a major step towards modernizing public transport in Islamabad and Rawalpindi by enabling real-time tracking of electric and metro buses through Google Maps, integrated within the newly launched CDA Mobile App. This initiative is designed to make public transportation more reliable, convenient, and accessible for daily commuters as well as tourists visiting the twin cities.
Through this system, passengers can now view detailed bus routes, stops, and schedules directly on their smartphones. The addition of live tracking features ensures that users receive accurate guidance on bus timings and arrivals, helping them save time and plan their journeys more efficiently.
CDA officials explained that the tracking system is not limited to the metro service but also extends to the electric bus feeder network, making it a comprehensive tool for navigating Islamabadโs expanding public transport system.
The electric bus service, introduced in July 2024, currently operates across 13 feeder routes. These routes include connections such as Faizabad to NUST, PIMS to Bari Imam, Police Lines to D-12, and Abpara to Tramri. To further support tourism and recreation, weekend bus services have also been introduced, offering routes from PIMS to popular destinations like Daman-e-Koh and Shakarparian, providing citizens and tourists with easy and environmentally friendly access to the capitalโs scenic locations.
The Metro Bus Service has also been fully integrated into the tracking system. Its five major lines form the backbone of the cityโs mass transit network. The Red Line connects Saddar with Pak Secretariat, while the Orange Line runs between Peshawar Mor and Islamabad International Airport.
The Green Line links Bhara Kahu with PIMS, the Blue Line connects Gulberg to Faizabad, and the Purple Line operates between Taramri and Aabpara. By bringing these metro lines into the digital platform, CDA aims to offer seamless coordination between feeder routes and main corridors.
With this integration, commuters can now track real-time bus arrivals and departures, find the nearest stops, and optimize their travel choices directly through Google Maps. CDA officials believe that the service will not only enhance passenger convenience but also play a significant role in promoting greater use of public transport.
By encouraging people to shift away from private cars, the system is expected to reduce traffic congestion and lower carbon emissions, contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable urban environment.
The CDA Mobile App, which enables this feature, is available for download on both Android and iOS platforms through the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. With this development, Islamabadโs transport system takes a significant step towards aligning with global smart city standards, ensuring that commuters enjoy smoother, safer, and more reliable journeys across the federal capital and beyond.
