A dramatic video showing a thief’s stunned reaction after being caught on camera has gone viral online. The footage, shared widely on social media, shows the moment the suspect realizes he is being recorded during a burglary.
Burglary Spree and Suspects
The video features two masked men breaking into a house. One thief freezes after noticing a hidden surveillance camera. They were later identified as Ricky Rixon, 39, of Spindle Mews, Orpington, and Lorenzo King, 36, of Beckenham Road, Beckenham.
Between 9 October 2023 and 8 January 2024, the duo targeted homes in Sevenoaks and Tonbridge. They stole cars, keys, and sentimental jewellery during three separate burglaries.
Details of Stolen Items
Among the stolen items was a Seat Ibiza, later used in another burglary. The thieves also took a widow’s ring and other valuables, selling much of the jewellery as scrap at a London pawnbroker under false names. The total value of the sold items reached £7,405.
Investigation and Arrest
Kent Police tracked the stolen car to Paddock Wood, leading to Rixon’s arrest. A mobile phone recovered from him helped link him to the crimes. King was arrested shortly afterward. CCTV footage confirmed King’s presence, and investigators also recovered a Nike tracksuit linked to the burglaries.
Authorities discovered that the pair had amassed tens of thousands of pounds during their burglary spree. Both suspects pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit burglary and laundering criminal property.
Court Verdict and Sentencing
On Thursday, December 4, Maidstone Crown Court sentenced Rixon and King to five years and four months imprisonment each. Officials highlighted the impact of their crimes on victims, describing how they left households feeling frightened and vulnerable.
Police Statement
Detective Constable Celia King said the burglars used face coverings and false registration plates to avoid detection. She praised the victims for reporting the crimes promptly and supporting the investigation. The evidence collected ultimately ensured their conviction and sentencing.
Public Reaction
The viral footage emphasizes the effectiveness of CCTV surveillance in preventing crime. Police officials encourage homeowners to install cameras as a deterrent. The video also demonstrates how quick thinking and evidence collection can bring criminals to justice.
