The Jinnah Institute of Cardiology in Lahore — a project launched under the previous PTI government — has officially been renamed the Maryam Nawaz Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, following approval by the Punjab cabinet.
Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique confirmed the change during an intervie, stating that the hospital is now a fully autonomous institution, no longer functioning as an extension of Jinnah Hospital.
“The hospital is now an independent facility with its own governing board,” said Rafique. “It will no longer fall under the administrative or functional control of Jinnah Hospital.”
Vision for Modern Cardiac Care
Rafique said the newly renamed institute is being developed with a forward-looking vision to meet international standards in cardiac healthcare. Key features of the upcoming facility include:
- Deployment of AI-powered and robotic medical equipment
- Infrastructure designed to support health tourism
- Specialized services aimed at attracting international patients
“We envision this institute as a global hub for advanced cardiovascular treatment,” the minister said. “Patients from abroad will come here for care, thanks to our focus on cutting-edge technology and global standards.”
He also noted that the name change has already been updated in the provincial budget documents and reflected in official departmental records.
