Pakistani television star Arij Fatyma has announced her recovery from a rare and aggressive form of cancer, sharing details for the first time about her four-month struggle with the disease.
In a heartfelt Instagram video, the Hassad actress revealed she had been diagnosed with choriocarcinoma — a fast-spreading cancer that develops from uterine tissue and often arises after a molar pregnancy.
“My life was going very well. I never took things too seriously and thought I would live a long life. I even skipped prayers at times,” she said. “Then, in just a few hours, everything changed. I fought for my life, not knowing whether I would survive.”
Fatyma underwent major surgery as part of her treatment but chose not to go public at the time, fearing judgment. “People can be quick to assume the worst and question your character,” she explained. She credited her family’s unwavering support throughout the ordeal and urged people not to judge others by what they see online.
Highlighting the importance of early detection, she advised her followers: “If you feel something is wrong, don’t ignore it or treat it with home remedies. Get yourself checked.”
Although now cancer-free, Fatyma will continue follow-up tests for years to monitor for recurrence. “The thought of it returning keeps me grounded, reminds me of death, and pushes me to live more meaningfully,” she said, asking fans to keep her in their prayers.
Arij Fatyma stepped away from acting in 2019, two years after marrying Dr. Uzair Ali. She now resides in Ohio, USA, with her husband and their two sons.
