For the first time, the Cambridge Examination Board has begun showing answer scripts to Pakistani students, a move officials describe as a step toward greater transparency.
The initiative, announced in Karachi, allows O and A Level students in Pakistan to view their answer scripts online at no cost. Students can then decide whether to apply for scrutiny after reviewing their performance.
Cambridgeโs Country Manager for Pakistan, Uzma Yousuf, revealed the development during a media briefing. She said all Cambridge-affiliated schools in the country have been given access to the exam copies of their enrolled students.
โAny student who wishes to see their answer script can do so by visiting their school. No fees will be charged to either students or schools for this service. If, after reviewing the copy, a student wants to apply for scrutiny, they may submit a request,โ she explained.
Yousuf highlighted the difference between Cambridge and local boards in Pakistan, noting that matriculation and intermediate boards across the provinces do not allow students to see their answer sheets. This makes the Cambridge initiative a first-of-its-kind measure in the country.
She also underlined Pakistanโs significant role in Cambridge education, pointing out that the country has the highest number of Cambridge O and A Level students in the world, with enrolments crossing 130,000. The United States ranks second, followed by China, India, and Dubai.
Currently, about 800 schools in Pakistan are affiliated with the Cambridge Examination Board. Officials believe the new initiative will not only enhance transparency but also give students an opportunity to reflect on their performance and make informed decisions about applying for rechecks or scrutiny.
This marks a major step in strengthening the credibility of international examinations in Pakistan while setting a new benchmark for student rights and transparency.
