RAWALPINDI — A high-level delegation of leading business figures, led by former caretaker federal minister Gohar Ejaz, met with Field Marshal Asim Munir to discuss Pakistan’s current economic challenges, recovery prospects, and reform priorities, according to informed sources.
The delegation included APTMA Chairman Kamran Arshad, SM Tanvir, and the presidents of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI).
Business Community Briefs COAS, Calls for Interest Rate Cuts
Gohar Ejaz said the delegation briefed the army chief on the overall state of the national economy, noting that economic stability was gradually returning and that the business community supports the government’s policy direction.
He emphasized the need for business-friendly reforms, urging the government to reduce interest rates in line with inflation to support local industries. Ejaz also called on authorities to address the business community’s concerns regarding the federal budget, specifically advocating for policies that promote an export-led economic model.
Highlighting the importance of domestic cotton production, Ejaz stressed the need to support farmers and ensure that the government delivers on promises made in the recent budget.
Army Chief Reiterates Support for Economic Development
Field Marshal Munir’s meeting with the business delegation is part of a broader pattern of active military support for economic progress. In recent months, he has consistently highlighted the importance of collective national effort in driving sustainable growth.
During his official visit to the United States last month, the COAS recognized the role of overseas Pakistanis in strengthening the economy through remittances, investments, and global achievements.
Earlier in May, Munir met with Pakistan Crypto Council CEO Bilal Bin Saqib, discussing the future of Pakistan’s digital economy and the role of blockchain, cryptocurrency, and AI in empowering the youth and transforming the nation’s economic landscape.

The army chief has repeatedly emphasized the need to position Pakistan’s youth at the center of economic transformation and build resilience through emerging technologies. His engagements reflect a growing national focus on inclusive development, innovation, and public-private cooperation.
