Veteran actor Bushra Ansari recently turned 69, and she’s celebrating the milestone with openness and confidence. In a heartfelt video posted on her YouTube channel, the legendary performer addressed society’s discomfort with aging and questioned why growing older is still treated like a taboo.
“I have no problem with my age,” she said candidly. “It’s such a strange phenomenon — age becomes something to hide as you grow older. But with every year comes experience, and that’s something to be proud of. Alhamdulillah, I’ve learned so much through life’s challenges, and if I’m still active and happy, then that’s something to celebrate.”
Bushra, who marked her birthday on Thursday, reflected on how, in her younger days, many people — especially women — concealed their age in hopes of securing roles or marriage proposals. She recalled moments in her early career where she would boldly show up on sets with her toddler, unfazed by societal expectations.
“People are overly conscious about age, even fearful,” she observed. “Age-shaming is real. You’ll often hear people say ‘act your age.’ But I’ve always believed that your soul should stay young — why worry about the body?”
The Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum star noted that vitality isn’t bound by age, and she’s met younger individuals who lack the same zest for life. For her, living joyfully is a form of gratitude.
“I’ve never hidden my age, and I don’t understand why I should,” she added with a laugh. “I’ve been on TV since I was nine! Lying about my age isn’t going to get me Mahira Khan’s roles or take Hania Aamir’s spotlight — so what’s the point?”
Bushra expressed gratitude for her career and the love she continues to receive, asking fans to keep her in their prayers. “Even those who don’t like me — pray for me to stay healthy, and pray for yourselves too,” she said with a smile.
