Brooke Shields has revealed that she is “glad” she never had children with her ex-husband, tennis star Andre Agassi, reflecting on the complexities of their brief marriage.
In her new memoir, Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed To Get Old, the actress and model shared her thoughts on her first marriage, which lasted from 1997 to 1999.
“I’m glad I never got pregnant with my first husband because it would have been a disaster,” Brooke wrote in her book. She recalled Andre telling her after their divorce, “Be thankful we didn’t have children… because I would not have made this easy for you.” She admitted to feeling a sense of relief upon hearing this.
Brooke, now 59, described her marriage to Andre as “controlling and rigid.” She also shared how Andre mocked her body, revealing, “I was very specifically told I was not runway worthy because I wasn’t skinny enough.”
Reflecting on her modeling career, she added, “Being told you are ‘the face,’ you begin to believe that’s all you are — a face. From the neck up, I was Brooke Shields, but it was like my body existed in a different reality.”
Shields’ candid revelations shed light on the struggles of her marriage to Agassi, which ended in 1999.
