British health journalist and TV personality Michael Mosley was found dead on Sunday on the Greek island of Symi, days after he went missing, police reported.
The precise cause of his death remains undetermined.
“People on a boat saw a body near the rocky coast,” said Petros Vassilakis, police chief for the southern Aegean region.
A TV crew from Greece’s ERT public channel, filming in the area, discovered the body. Mosley, 67, had disappeared on Wednesday after setting out for a solo coastal walk in the heat.
“It’s devastating to have lost Michael, my wonderful, funny, kind, and brilliant husband,” his wife, Clare Bailey, said in a statement confirming his death.
“He undertook an incredible climb, took a wrong route, and collapsed in a spot not easily visible to the extensive search team,” she added.
Symi mayor Lefteris Papakalodoukas also confirmed Mosley had been found. Mosley had been on holiday on the island with his wife.
Coroner Despina Nathena indicated that Mosley’s death did not seem to be the result of a criminal act, but the exact cause could not be determined due to the delay in finding his body.
Initially working as an investment banker, Mosley later qualified as a medical doctor and went on to become a successful presenter, documentary maker, journalist, and author.
