The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) matches scheduled for Tuesday, December 30, 2025, were called off following the passing of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) cited national mourning and her significant contributions to cricket development in the country as reasons for the postponement.
Two games were initially planned at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium: Sylhet Titans versus Chattogram Royals during the day and Dhaka Capitals versus Rangpur Riders later in the day. Both matches were immediately postponed upon confirmation of Khaleda Zia’s death at 6:00 AM local time.
In an official statement, the BCB highlighted the former Prime Minister’s support in advancing cricket infrastructure and fostering nationwide growth during her terms from 1991–1996 and 2001–2006. The board emphasized that her blessings and encouragement had played a key role in the sport’s development across Bangladesh.
The statement read, “In respect of the nation’s mourning and in honour of Begum Khaleda Zia’s legacy, the BCB announces that today’s scheduled Bangladesh Premier League matches have been cancelled and will be rescheduled.” Revised fixtures will be shared once the board finalizes dates, taking into account the seven-day national mourning declared by Khaleda Zia’s political party, the BNP.
BPL matches are expected to resume from Wednesday, December 31, though scheduling adjustments may be necessary depending on ongoing mourning activities and national events. The BCB continues to monitor the situation closely to ensure proper coordination and respect for the former Prime Minister’s legacy.
The cancellation reflects both a tribute to Khaleda Zia’s contributions to Bangladesh’s cricketing landscape and a mark of respect during the period of national mourning. Fans and players alike are awaiting updates on the rescheduled fixtures as the league prepares to continue.
