JACOBABAD: A powerful explosion near Jacobabad on Monday derailed at least three coaches of the Jaffar Express, which was en route from Rawalpindi to Quetta, railway officials confirmed. The blast occurred between Sultan Kot and Jacobabad, causing a sudden halt in train operations in the affected section.
As of now, no casualties or injuries have been reported, and all passengers were safely evacuated from the train thanks to the swift response of railway staff. Authorities say the derailment happened due to an explosion close to the train’s path, which damaged the track and caused three of its coaches to go off the rails.
Train Operations Halted; Investigation Underway
Following the blast, railway services on the route have been suspended, and efforts are underway to assess the damage and resume operations. The cause of the explosion remains unclear, and no official statement has been issued yet regarding the identity of the perpetrators or the nature of the device used.
Law enforcement agencies and bomb disposal squads have reached the site, and a formal investigation has been launched. Officials say restoring full operations will depend on the completion of safety checks and track repair in the affected zone.
The Jaffar Express is a key rail link connecting northern and southwestern Pakistan, and disruptions to its route are expected to impact passenger traffic until the line is cleared.
