Legal Battle Continues Amid Dismissed Claims
The legal dispute between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni is moving forward after failed settlement attempts. Both parties have refused to resolve the case out of court. The matter is now set for trial.
Last week, Judge Lewis J. Liman dismissed 10 out of 13 claims in Livelyโs lawsuit. These included allegations of harassment and defamation against Baldoni and his production company, Wayfarer Studios. Baldoni had denied all the claims.
Despite the judge urging both sides to update the court on any potential settlement, no agreement was reached. Pre-trial hearings confirmed that Lively and Baldoni are maintaining their separate positions. The trial is officially scheduled to start on May 18.
Key Claims Moving Forward
Judge Liman ruled that certain claims would not proceed. Lively cannot file a sexual harassment claim under federal law because she was considered an independent contractor on the film. Additionally, California harassment laws do not apply because the filming took place in New Jersey.
This leaves only three claims moving forward: breach of contract, retaliation, and aiding and abetting in retaliation. These remaining allegations will form the core of the trial proceedings. Legal experts note that the narrowed focus could speed up the trial process.
Baldoniโs team continues to defend against all allegations. They insist that neither he nor Wayfarer Studios engaged in any wrongdoing during production. Livelyโs team, however, remains determined to hold Baldoni accountable for the claims that remain.
Blake Lively Speaks Out on Social Media
Following the judgeโs ruling, Blake Lively shared a statement on Instagram. She emphasized her commitment to exposing harmful systems and individuals that silence or retaliate against victims.
Lively wrote that she will not waste the privilege of being able to stand up for what is right. She also thanked her supporters for their continued encouragement and solidarity. Her message highlighted the broader issues of accountability in Hollywood and workplace safety.
The trial promises to be closely watched by fans and media alike. Legal analysts suggest that the case may have implications for how independent contractors navigate workplace disputes in the film industry. Both Lively and Baldoni are expected to present evidence and testimony related to the remaining claims.
As the courtroom showdown approaches, public attention remains focused on the personal and professional dynamics between the two actors. The outcome of this trial could set an important precedent for similar cases in entertainment law.
