Rawalpindi: Pakistanโs beef and mutton exports to Middle Eastern countries have been disrupted as the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict continues to affect regional airspace and maritime routes. The transport restrictions have halted shipments of fresh meat to Gulf markets, raising concerns among exporters and traders.
For the fifth consecutive day, several Arab countries have kept parts of their airspace and key maritime corridors closed due to the escalating conflict. As a result, exporters have struggled to send meat consignments from Pakistan to major Gulf destinations.
Traders say the disruption has interrupted the supply chain that regularly transports Pakistani beef and mutton to Middle Eastern markets. Consequently, exporters now fear financial losses if the restrictions continue for an extended period.
Export Disruptions Raise Concerns Among Traders
Market traders in Rawalpindi have warned that the prolonged suspension of exports could significantly affect businesses dealing in livestock and meat products. Many exporters rely heavily on the Gulf market, where demand for Pakistani meat remains strong.
Moreover, the sudden halt in shipments has created uncertainty among suppliers, distributors and exporters who depend on stable logistics routes. Without regular cargo flights or shipping access, exporters cannot move perishable meat products efficiently.
Industry sources explained that if transport routes reopen soon, traders may recover some losses. However, prolonged disruptions could severely affect the export sector.
Possible Impact on Domestic Meat Prices
Meanwhile, market analysts believe the export halt could influence domestic meat prices in Pakistan. If shipments remain suspended, surplus stock may begin to accumulate in local markets.
According to market estimates, mutton prices could decline by up to Rs800 per kilogram, while beef prices may drop by nearly Rs500 per kilogram due to excess supply.
Additionally, exports of goat and beef to Afghanistan have already been suspended, further limiting alternative markets for Pakistani meat exporters.
