KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Tuesday outlined his governmentโs education priorities, emphasising expanded access, improved teacher quality and the urgent need to enrol out-of-school children. Moreover, he proposed that Beaconhouse School System manage government-owned schools under a public-private partnership framework.
The chief minister made the remarks while addressing Beaconhouseโs golden jubilee celebrations at its PECHS Campus, marking 50 years of service in education. He praised the institutionโs evolution from a small Montessori established in 1975 into one of the worldโs largest private education networks, now educating more than 400,000 students in Pakistan and overseas.
Tributes and national integration focus
At the outset, the chief minister offered prayers for the victims of the Gul Plaza incident and expressed solidarity with bereaved families. Subsequently, he commended Beaconhouseโs leadership for its sustained commitment to quality and inclusive education.
He also lauded the publication of the commemorative book Eik Dafa Ka Zikar Hai, or Once Upon a Time, calling it a valuable contribution to national integration. The project, launched over two years ago, brings together folklore-based stories shared across generations, highlighting cultural continuity through oral traditions.
Prominent attendees included Senator Nisar Ahmad Khuhro, former foreign minister Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri, former minister Javed Jabbar, education officials, Beaconhouse executives, teachers and students.
Sustainability and global impact highlighted
Founder Chairperson Nasreen Mahmud Kasuri reflected on Beaconhouseโs five-decade journey and the responsibility that accompanies institutional scale. She stressed educationโs role in shaping values beyond classrooms and promoting Pakistanโs soft image globally.
Meanwhile, CEO Kasim Kasuri highlighted sustainability as a strategic priority. He noted the launch of the Green Pakistan initiative, distributing 1.5 million saplings nationwide, alongside extensive teacher training programmes exceeding 100,000 hours.
The ceremony concluded with reflections from former teachers and a student tribute, underscoring continuity across generations.
