ISLAMABAD: Bangladesh Cricket Board chairman Aminul Islam arrived in Lahore on Sunday to attend an emergency meeting of the International Cricket Council alongside officials of the Pakistan Cricket Board, sources said.
The meeting comes amid growing uncertainty surrounding the T20 World Cup and regional cricketing relations.
According to officials, Aminul Islam is also scheduled to hold separate meetings with senior PCB leadership to discuss Pakistanโs position on the T20 World Cup, ongoing bilateral matters, and potential future series between Pakistan and Bangladesh. As tensions continue to affect international cricket scheduling, both sides aim to explore ways to maintain cooperation and dialogue.
During his visit, the BCB chairman is expected to participate in multiple formal sessions focused on strengthening institutional ties between the two boards. Moreover, discussions will cover broader efforts to promote regional cricket and ensure continuity of international fixtures despite political and logistical challenges.
Virtual ICC session to address growing concerns
Sources said Aminul Islam will also join the ICCโs emergency meeting virtually alongside PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi. The session is expected to address concerns arising from Pakistanโs boycott of its scheduled T20 World Cup match against India, a move that has triggered debate within global cricketing circles.
Meanwhile, officials believe the presence of the BCB chairman in Lahore underscores Bangladeshโs willingness to engage constructively with Pakistan and the ICC during a sensitive period. Consequently, his visit is being viewed as an important diplomatic gesture aimed at easing tensions and preserving competitive balance in international cricket.
After concluding his meetings, Aminul Islam is expected to return to Dhaka later on Sunday. Observers say the outcome of the discussions could influence future scheduling decisions and bilateral engagements between the two cricketing nations in the coming months.
