ISLAMABAD: Batsmen of Pakistan and England created new records in the opening Test match as the flat Rawalpindi pitch supported them score tons after tons. In first three days, six centuries have been scored in the opening Test match.
Openers of Pakistan Imam-ul-Haq and Abdullah Shafique completed their centuries while chasing England’s total of 657 runs.
Pakistani pair broke the record for the highest opening stand in Test cricket with a partnership of 225 runs. Imamul Haq made 121 runs while Abdullah Shafique scored 114 against England.
Previously Mohsin Khan and Shoaib Muhammad held record of 173-run opening partnership against England in the year 1984.
Meanwhile, for the first time in test history both openers from England and Pakistan sides scored centuries in the first innings of a test match.
England’s opening pair Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett also scored centuries in the first innings. Crawley scored 122, while Duckett made 107 runs before his dismissal.
The opening pair scored 233 runs and England scored a huge total of 657 runs in their first innings.
