ISLAMABAD: Electricity prices are expected to rise from July 1, 2022 in different stages as the basic power tariff will be raised to Rs24.8 per unit.
The decision was taken on June 2 in line with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) demands and the power distribution companies’ requests.
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) had already raised the basic power tariff by Rs7.9078/kWh for next fiscal year 2022-23.
Citing sources, Geo TV today reported that from July 1, the basic power tariff will be increased by Rs3.50/unit after which per unit of electricity price will rise to Rs20.41 from the existing price of Rs16.91 per unit. With the inclusion of sales tax and other levies, the actual cost of the electricity will be much more than the basic tariff.
Furthermore, in August this year, a further Rs3.50 per unit will be added which will increase the basic electricity tariff to Rs23.91 per unit while remaining Rs0.91 will be increased in October, taking the basic power tariff to Rs24.82 per unit.
This increase will not be applicable to the consumers using 200 or fewer electricity units in a month.
