Karachi:The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has directed all commercial banks to remain open from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 28, following a request from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). The decision aims to facilitate taxpayers in submitting over-the-counter (OTC) payments for government duties and taxes before the deadline.
According to an official statement, the directive applies to all commercial banks, including National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) branches that handle customs collections. By extending banking hours on Saturday, authorities intend to ease payment processing and prevent last-minute disruptions.
Moreover, SBP instructed banks to keep designated branches open for as long as necessary to support the Special Clearing for Government transactions conducted by the National Institutional Facilitation Technologies (NIFT). Officials emphasized that banks must ensure smooth handling of government-related transactions throughout the day.
In addition to physical branch operations, SBP directed banks to maintain uninterrupted access to digital payment platforms. These include internet banking services, mobile applications, ATMs, and other online channels.
Consequently, taxpayers will have multiple options to complete their payments conveniently and on time. The central bank underscored the importance of seamless digital services to minimize congestion at branches and enhance efficiency.
Earlier, SBP issued a circular outlining revised office and banking hours for Ramadan 2026. During the holy month, SBP offices will operate from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday through Thursday, without a break. On Fridays, offices will remain open from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm.
Similarly, banks, development finance institutions, and microfinance banks will observe public dealing hours from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm, Monday to Thursday, and 9:00 am to 12:30 pm on Fridays.
