ID Documents Confirm Foreign Link in Karak Encounter
Authorities have confirmed that one of the militants killed in a recent intelligence-based operation in the Darshakhel area of Karak, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, was a Bangladeshi citizen. The identification came after security personnel recovered a Bangladeshi national identity card, currency, and other personal belongings from the deceased terrorist.
Officials stated that these findings confirm foreign involvement in militant networks operating in the region. The presence of Bangladeshi ID and currency highlights cross-border affiliations and the growing concern over foreign nationals being recruited by extremist groups.
Pattern of Foreign Militants Joining Regional Networks
Security sources revealed that this is not the first time Bangladeshi nationals have been found among militant ranks. In past encounters, at least two to three individuals from Bangladesh were also killed. These individuals allegedly entered Afghanistan under the guise of religious preaching before joining militant outfits.
The confirmation comes shortly after Pakistani forces neutralised 17 terrorists in a major counter-terror operation in Karak, which targeted members of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The offensive, carried out jointly by the Pakistan Army, Special Services Group (SSG), and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), took place in the rugged terrain of the Dareshk region.
The two-day operation resulted in the deaths of 17 terrorists, with more than 10 others seriously injured. Three Pakistani security personnel were also wounded in the intense exchange of fire. The militants were reportedly linked to the Mullah Nazir group, operating under the TTP umbrella.
Security officials say the incident underscores the threat posed by foreign militants infiltrating domestic terror groups.
