Tanzid Hasan leads dominant run chase
Bangladesh defeated Pakistan by eight wickets in the opening One-day International at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Wednesday after a commanding all-round performance.
Chasing a modest target of 115, Bangladesh comfortably reached the total in just 15.1 overs while losing only two wickets. Opener Tanzid Hasan played a crucial role with an unbeaten 67 from 42 balls, guiding the hosts to victory with aggressive stroke play.
Bangladesh began confidently as Saif Hassan and Tanzid built an early partnership. However, Shaheen Shah Afridi provided Pakistan’s first breakthrough by dismissing Saif for four.
After that, Tanzid partnered with Najmul Hossain Shanto to dominate Pakistan’s bowling attack. The pair added an 82-run stand while hitting boundaries regularly and pushing Bangladesh beyond the halfway mark.
Shanto scored 27 before Mohammad Wasim Jr ended the partnership. Nevertheless, Tanzid maintained control and reached his fifth ODI half-century before finishing the chase with authority.
Pakistan collapse after promising start
Earlier, Pakistan began their innings positively as debutant openers Maaz Sadaqat and Sahibzada Farhan put together a 41-run opening stand.
However, Bangladesh quickly turned the match around through an impressive spell from pacer Nahid Rana, who removed Farhan for 27 and then dismissed debutant Shamyl Hussain.
Pakistan’s batting line-up then collapsed as wickets fell at regular intervals. Rana continued his dominance by removing Maaz and Mohammad Rizwan, leaving Pakistan struggling.
Meanwhile, Mehidy Hasan Miraz strengthened Bangladesh’s grip by dismissing Abdul Samad, Hussain Talat and Afridi in quick succession.
Pakistan eventually collapsed for 115 despite a fighting 37 from Faheem Ashraf. Mustafizur Rahman took the final wicket to seal Bangladesh’s dominant bowling performance.
