A formal inquiry in New South Wales cleared Iran of involvement in several antisemitic attacks.
Officials said the accusations lacked evidence and unfairly drove diplomatic tensions with Tehran.
The findings came during a parliamentary Q&A session focused on the NSW Police’s Strike Force Pearl.
NSW Police confirmed they hold “nil holdings” linking Iran or its agents to the targeted attacks.
The inquiry examined 14 serious incidents at Jewish properties and community institutions.
Organised Crime, Not Iran, Behind Attacks
Police said organised crime groups orchestrated 13 of the 14 attacks for financial gain.
A single case involved homegrown antisemitic ideology, with two suspects making threatening remarks online.
Authorities charged them over violent threats but found no Iranian connection.
Diplomatic Fallout Questioned
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese expelled Iran’s ambassador in August after alleged intelligence claims.
He accused Iran of involvement in arson attacks in Sydney and Melbourne.
He offered no public evidence to justify the dramatic decision.
Iran condemned the expulsion and said antisemitism originated in Western history.
Tehran argued European nations must answer for past Jewish persecution.
Analysts Point to Political Motives
Analysts said Canberra sought to appease pro-Israel groups unhappy with Australia’s recognition of Palestine.
Albanese also indicated plans to list Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps as a terrorist organisation next.
Critics accused the government of escalating tensions without credible intelligence.
