ISLAMABAD: A Rawalpindi anti-terrorism court directed authorities to block the CNIC and passport of Aleema Khan on Friday. She is the sister of PTI founder Imran Khan. The order came after she again failed to appear before the court. The court had already executed a non-bailable arrest warrant issued on October 22. Punjab Sub-Divisional Police Officer Azhar Shah obtained her signature on the warrant in Islamabad yesterday.
Multiple Warrants Issued in Protest Case
The case concerns the November 26 protest staged by PTI in Islamabad last year. The Rawalpindi ATC has issued at least four arrest warrants for Aleema in this matter. The judge said she regularly appears in public yet avoids court hearings. He stated that her attendance must be ensured.
Authorities Told to Freeze Assets
The court instructed the heads of NADRA and the Passport Directorate to block her identification documents. It further ordered the State Bank of Pakistan to freeze her bank accounts. The properties of her guarantor will also be forfeited to the state. Following the directives, the court adjourned the hearing until October 27.
Protest Background and Legal Proceedings
The November 26 protest saw more than 10,000 PTI supporters enter Islamabad, defying a ban on public gatherings. Clashes with roughly 20,000 security personnel occurred in the Red Zone. The party leadership ended the protest plan after the violence. Police later registered cases against PTI figures under the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Aleema and 10 others were booked at Sadiqabad police station. The court has repeatedly rejected her requests for exemption from appearance. It noted she faces criminal charges linked to the protest.
