Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shehrbano Naqvi has become the first female police officer from Pakistan to be selected for the prestigious Asia Society 21 Next Generation Fellowship. The selection for the Class of 2025 recognises her commitment to protecting vulnerable groups and driving systemic change within law enforcement, marking a historic achievement for Pakistani women in policing.
According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, ASP Naqvi’s dedication and exemplary service earned her this international recognition. Punjab Inspector General Dr Usman Anwar congratulated her, stating, “It is a matter of pride that the performance of Punjab Police officers is being recognised at the international level.” The fellowship will take place from December 5 to 7, 2025, in the Philippines, where 30 outstanding individuals from 27 countries will be honoured.
ASP Naqvi rose to national prominence in 2023 after her courageous intervention to save a woman from a violent mob in Lahore’s Achhra Market. The incident brought her widespread recognition and established her as a symbol of bravery and integrity in the police force. Her selection for the Asia 21 Fellowship adds to a growing list of international honours for Pakistani women in law enforcement.
Earlier, in March 2025, police officer Anum Khan Muhammad Sher of Sargodha City Police Station received the Excellence in Criminal Investigation Award at the World Police Summit in Dubai for successfully leading and solving two high-profile murder cases.
Similarly, in October 2024, Rawalpindi Chief Traffic Officer SP Beenish Fatima was recognised with the IACP 40 Under 40 Award by the International Association of Chiefs of Police in Boston, highlighting her leadership and contributions to policing.
ASP Shehrbano’s achievement not only underscores her personal dedication and courage but also reflects the growing global recognition of Pakistani women in law enforcement. Her selection for the Asia 21 Next Generation Fellowship is a landmark moment, inspiring other female officers and demonstrating the increasing impact of Pakistani professionals on international platforms.
This milestone is seen as a step forward in encouraging women in law enforcement and promoting leadership, courage, and systemic reforms within the police force.
