Injury Clouds India’s Line-Up Ahead of High-Stakes Super Four Match
DUBAI – Team India has been dealt a potential blow ahead of their crucial Asia Cup 2025 Super Four clash against arch-rivals Pakistan, as all-rounder Axar Patel has suffered a head injury that casts serious doubt over his availability for the high-voltage encounter.
The much-anticipated India-Pakistan match is set to take place on Sunday in the United Arab Emirates, with both teams eyeing a spot in the tournament final. However, Axar’s injury has raised concerns within the Indian camp as they face the prospect of missing a key spin-bowling all-rounder.
Axar Injured During Oman Match, Team Awaits Medical Update
According to Indian media reports, the incident occurred during India’s final group-stage match against Oman, when Axar attempted a catch in the 15th over. He fell awkwardly while diving, hitting his head on the ground, and was immediately taken off the field. He did not return for the remainder of the game.
Team medical staff have yet to issue an official update on his condition, and no decision has been made public regarding his inclusion in Sunday’s playing XI.
Axar Patel has been a valuable asset for India in recent months, contributing both with the ball and lower-order batting. His potential absence could force the team management to consider alternate spin options such as Kuldeep Yadav or Ravi Bishnoi, depending on pitch conditions.
India has not yet named a replacement or standby player for Axar, further indicating that a final call will be made based on medical assessments closer to match time.
