KARACHI: The afternoon of 20th April was selected to honor those women artists who need to be promoted for their dedication to Art. The venue selected was the Sambara Art Gallery near Liaquat Hospital in Karachi.
Senior artists like Shaheen Mussawir, Tariq Toni, and Syed Alishah were also present and they participated in giving shields or receiving Ajrak from government officials, etc.
Ms. Mehreen Ilahi also received a recognition shield for her services to promote Art. Her mother who had come to see her granddaughter also received an award and a Sindhi Ajrak
More than 50 artists participated in the event and six of the girls got awards. Fatima Arzoo Hassan was among the recipients of the award.
Shahzad Khatri along with Razia Sheikh initiated the one-day event.
The room was filled with some Sind government officials, senior artists, and gallery owners.

Mehreen Ilahi, CEO of Majmua the Art Gallery spoke on the occasion and welcomed the showcasing of work even in her gallery and gave the young emerging artists encouragement.
A senior government official bought the work of an artist who had painted a woman from Palestine.
