“Russia–My Soul” Festival Brings Poetry, Music, and Cultural Exchange to Karachi

A vibrant blend of color, music, and poetry took center stage at a cultural event hosted at a university in Karachi on Saturday, marking the celebration of the Russian cultural festival titled “Russia–My Soul.” Enthralling performances by students created a captivating atmosphere for attendees.

The event formed part of a three-day festival jointly organized by the Russkii Mir Foundation, Newports Institute of Communications and Economics, and Moscow Polytechnic University. It highlighted deepening cultural ties between Russia and Pakistan.

A major attraction was the recitation of selected works by iconic Russian literary figures including poet and playwright Alexander Pushkin, novelist Fyodor Dostoevsky, and other Russian philosophers. Pakistani students delivered these recitations with such fluency and clarity that Russian attendees expressed admiration for their pronunciation and articulation.

The program also featured lively performances by students on traditional Russian and Pakistani songs, creating a cultural fusion that resonated with the audience.

In addition, a quiz competition tested participants’ knowledge of Russian culture, history, and notable personalities. A documentary showcasing renowned Russian cities and landmarks was also presented to give guests a virtual cultural tour.

During her address, Huma Bukhari, Co-Chairperson of the Newports Institute, emphasized the importance of expanding collaboration between Pakistan and Russia in the spheres of education, culture, and the arts. She announced that the institute will soon launch Russian language classes to facilitate students aspiring to study in Russia by reducing their time and expenses.

Alina Andrukh, Head of the International Directorate at Moscow Polytechnic University, praised the students’ performances and noted the growing cultural engagement between the two nations. She pointed out that the number of Pakistani students enrolled in Russian universities has steadily increased over the past ten years.

Andrukh also shared that while the university has been organizing this festival in Russia for the past four years, this is the first time the event has been held in Pakistan, underscoring the strengthening cultural bonds between the two countries.

The Russian delegation attending the festival is led by Yulia Davydova, Vice-Rector for International Affairs, whose key mission is to promote Russian culture globally.
