Transgender Festival
On Friday, the transgender community, led by an organizing committee including Dr. Sara Gill, Hina Pathani, Nisha Rao, Bebo Haider, and Kami Sid, organized a rally and festival at the Arts Council. The event, named the “Hijra Festival,” demanded immediate rights and job opportunities.
Transgender individuals, hailing from various parts of the country, marched from the Karachi Press Club to Fawara Chowk, showcasing their talents with clothing and jewelry stalls at the Arts Council. The objective was to highlight social discrimination, seeking equal opportunities for the community.
Carrying placards and banners with messages like “Hejray tau jaag rahe hain/Sau tau ye muashra gaya hai” (The transgender community is awake/But society has fallen asleep), they emphasized the three points of “existence, resistance, and resilience.”
The vibrant procession aimed to counter societal indifference, expressing serious and humorous messages on placards such as “Looking wow!” and “Proud of our existence.” The festival served as a powerful platform to demand equal rights and recognition for the transgender community.
